Conservation, etc.

You may have noticed me mentioning various conservation groups/efforts on these last couple seasons of Inside the Musician’s Brain. Here’s a little context

I’m passionate about the outdoors, and to be passionate about the outdoors in this day and age also means you have to protect the outdoors, however you can. I grew up fly fishing with my dad, was an environmental studies major at Dartmouth, and in recent years have gotten mush more into conservation. I support a few different conservation nonprofits, try to get involved in local efforts, and now I use my pod to try and raise awareness about both of these angles. The main groups you’ve heard me talking about this last season are Trout Unlimited, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust and Protect Our Rivers. Trout Unlimited is an amazing organization that helps care for and recover rivers and streams across the country, protecting trout and salmon populations that are in danger. Protect Our Rivers is a local organization here in CO that does great work organizing clean-ups on some of my home waters. And Bonefish and Tarpon Trust is a conservation group that is revolutionizing the science we use to understand and protect saltwater species and habitat. All three do great work and are deserving of your support.

We all need to be paying attention and donating our time, energy and resources to try and protect the natural world. It will not happen automatically! You need to get involved. And don’t forget, it feels good to do good.
