ITMB Season 5 is in the Books
Another season of my podcast, Inside the Musician’s Brain, is in the books. This is a serious labor of love - very time consuming but very rewarding at the same time. I’ve learned more from these conversations, and from the prep work I do, reading about and listening to guests, as I do from anything else in my life. It’s a gift. It keeps me up on new music and keeps me coming into contact with different perspectives, different approaches, and different humans. I loved hearing Megan Lovell talk about discovering that being an introvert was actually her superpower. I loved hearing Jerry Douglas tell stories about playing with banjo titan JD Crowe at the famed Holiday Inn in Lexington, KY. I loved hearing JJ Grey talk about the innate connection humans have and how he learned to tap into that. I really loved it all.
I get questions about my podcast workflow, especially when the Stringdusters tour schedule is in full swing, like it always is. I did pretty good this season, getting ahead on interviews and production until about half way through the season when I am flying by the seat of my pants and recording interviews days before they need to be part of a fully produced, published podcast episode. I love the prep work - listening to new stuff, old stuff, interviews and more. I will admit that when the season wraps up, it feels like I just got out of school for summer, and that’s exciting. I’m ready to get into recording some new music and a few other things that have been on the back burner. Then in a few months I’ll get ready to fire it all up again. Huge thx to RJ, Matt and Mark at Osiris Media, and to Fritz and Ivory at Regime, for helping me make the pod happen. Thx for tuning in!
